I try to create art that represents and/or showcases the emotions and psyche of women in an honest and humanizing way. Conceptually, the focus of my art revolves around female identity as well as what it means to be a female creator. I mainly explore the few intersections of womanhood that I am a part of, as I do not feel it would be appropriate for me to speak on behalf of women from intersections I am not a part of, though my aim is to humanize women in general. The intersections I explore are primarily those of mental illness and sexual orientation.
I’m also interested in emotions in general. Relating to the psychology of female experience, I am particularly interested in manifestation and symbolism of anger, jealousy, and shame.
In exploring these themes, I try to experiment with different methods of communication (visual, abstract, words, etc.) and symbols. I’m interested in light and the symbolism that comes with it in the context of my art and I hope to do more with that in my future pieces. The symbols in my art are largely rooted in psychology and Jungian dream interpretation.
Overall, my work looks to explore the complexities of female identity while experimenting with light, color, and medium.
